Important reads for Black Gay Men: Frances Cress Welsing & Neely Fuller, Jr.

#Blackgaymen. Look up justifiable homicide. Please!

Sorry my hand was shaking.

Check these readings out. I ordered these books back in 2015. December 31, to be exact. They are giving me ‘color’ on how to understand my dilemma with being treated as a decent citizen, worth acknowledging and treating with kindness and humanity.

Treatment we all deserve.

These are controversial and will JAR you. That is ok. Just read the ideas, and perhaps order the books for your personal library.

Neely Fuller, Jr – The United Independent Compensatory Code/System/Concept

Dr. Frances Cress Welsing – The Isis Paper: the Keys to the Colors

I’ve been gone for a minute but I’m back w the Jump off.

I was gonna type this. But pictures speak louder than words.

These are my workouts during my most recent hospital and behavioral health system stay. (Mental hospital)

You’ll notice I worked out 14 times during my 30+ day stay.

Pushups was heavy!

Followed by high knees, and athletic stationery runs/jump ropes, and suicides.

Core was a distant third focal point.

I’m currently home from an attempt to justifiably remove my own life. It’s a long story. Its meant for MyEdgeMedia!

I’ll keep trying to share more as I process and catalogue my experiences over these past 36 years.

Projects: Student-Athlete Success Questionnaire

Student-Athlete Success Questionnaire

Hey team. I’m working on a new project. A book for student athletes. Which will…

Focus on their success!

Were you an athlete in college? -or- Do you know one?

I’m looking for 100 Former Collegiate Athletes to participate in a survey uncovering the powerful lessons we learned of the world as student-athletes. Feedback will go into a Student-Athlete Success Guide I’m currently drafting.

Could you support me with your feedback and 10 minutes of your time.

Proof of a Mentality Shift: “I’ve come so far vs I have so far to go!”

Proof of a Mentality Shift:

“I’ve come so far vs I have so far to go!”

n32302230_31383463_1268-1I’m sitting here in my dimly lit cabin on the Laguardia tarmac. The breeze stream is hitting nice and crisp in the face. I had my eyes closed and was bound to fall asleep. But the breeze reminds me to be in my present.

I’m here, headed to Indianapolis and Terre haute, Indiana, for a homecoming ceremony. In so many ways I’m returning to the scene of my manhood training. The place and time where I became who I am.

I immediately began to think about the track team. Sitting in my chair, I ran over my talking points. And how I need to email them to the coaches. How I needed to ask them to have paper and pencils ready for the team. Just as a back up… I’m actually more interested in them taking notes in their phones and sending it to one to two accountability partners. Someone to hear and open them up beyond their limits and dreams.

Its sentimental yo! This all started on a whim. I can remember when I used to daydream about coming back and supporting the team in some way, shape, or form. Everything I’ve ever accomplished in my young life, I feel started when I was accepted and embraced on this team as a scholarship and talented athlete. I remember early in my professional journeys knowing that opportunities were opened to me only because of the space track held on my resume.

I’m stunned and a bit overwhelmed that not only do I get to talk to some of the current track beasts on the yard. But I also get to bring my homies with me! Two of my frat brothers, and my pledge daughter are gonna be in the house sharing and re-nourishing the community we grew up and bonded in. I’m so proud and honored that they’re even willing to rock with me and take a break from the festivities to put in that work!

Speaking of frat… my line brothers, the seven of us together, will be back together, for the first time, since we were even “introduced”. SUPREMACY, the Alpha Boys whose name alone caused a slight uproar, is finally re-forming on our Voltron steez. April 10, 2005 is the day we were introduced to the yard – and from that night, we’ve appeared in chunks and in sections, but never in our final form.

I’m so happy to share this with y’all. These boys turned men – supported me in becoming the man I am today! My Guys, my Sandz, my Brothers, my Everything are coming back. I’m nervous and relieved. These are the kats that I slept in storefront basements with. On cardboard boxes and potato sacks. Like where the fuck did we find potato sacks at!?!?! My boys is who I learned “Will yourself through – until you find a way!” with and from.

We have been through so much, and what makes me proud and fortified is that, we were broken by our achievements. My line brothers worked their fucking asses off yo! These dudes graduated, found jobs, relocated, re-educated and remodeled their lives relent-lessly! We learned a hustle together and… if my success and drive is a proof of anything it’s that Supremacy, the Jewel Line from Zeta Rho Death Chapter, Alpha Phi Alpha, Incorporated indeed live(d) up to their name!

Seeing brothers, and the extended family they provided for me will be the blessing of the year. (As they continue to roll in one after the other)

“I’ve come so far” – is what I felt at Indiana State University. It was a useful way to think and be back then 2003 – 2007. I operated from a stance of aw and uber appreciation for everything I was given.

“I have so far to go!” – is the moniker I’m shifting to now. It’s whats pushed me to multitask and trust myself to push my limits even while I’m away. I have two workshops and community gatherings scheduled this weekend. I’m here in this earth to make moves. I’m here on this earth to push my talents. And I’m so happy to be coming back to the place that taught me all of this prepared to do even more for the community that when I first left!

Opening Yourself up for Powerful Relationships

Opening Yourself Up For

Powerful Relationships

This video is about being intentional in my relationships.

Before I could begin to change my relationships with my family, peers, and friends. I first had to change my relationship with myself. For too long I had negative beliefs about myself that were more than just bad things I thought about myself. These beliefs actually became immovable hurdles that prevented me from feeling comfortable finding new ground with my relationships with others in my life.

What beliefs do you have about yourself that STOP YOU from doing great things?

Have you taken inventory of –

Beliefs that hold you small.

Beliefs that hold you back from your greatness.

The idea that I was awkward and shy prevented me from ever even needing to try new things to meet new people. I already knew the answer to how these situations would turn out. BAD, so why change it up.

Once I declared that my relationships would change, it wasn’t long before these beliefs started to dissolve and disappear into my past.

Now that’s not to say that I’m not awkward, and that I’m not still shy. It goes to show that once you realize that your beliefs don’t define you forever, then you’re able to do the ground-work to establish newer and greater things in your life. Which a lot of times means leaving your old habits and thoughts behind. BYE BYE shy/awkward dude. Hello homie that’s ready to make things happen!

My belief that I was socially awkward immediately would make me come up with reasons why I couldn’t attend social and public events. It was debilitating even. My default was no, and that prevented me from being exposed to so many great people and even more great opportunities.

I’m happy that i’m experiencing what its like to be opening myself up for powerful relationships. I’ve been doing the work for less than a month, and like I said in the video, I’m already feeling the return on my investment. There were days when I would look at my phone over the course of hours and never get more than one text. NOW, since I’ve changed my beliefs about myself, which have led to new and focused behaviors. I’m generally sitting on about 10 msgs/notifications just waiting to be responded to.

If I can do that, y’all damn sure can do what you’re looking to do!

What is the vision you have for your relationships?

Share it below. Let’s brainstorm our growth together!

Why aren’t you taking on tasks that intimidate you?

Why aren’t you taking on tasks that intimidate you?

So here I am, trying to prep for 3 workshops that fell out of the sky onto my lap. Yall do see I just opened a workshop running business right!?

I was intimidated at first. My friend invited me to support her in running 3 powerful workshops for our Advanced Training Group. I was scared, I had always controlled the doorway to my opportunities before. I didn’t know what it looked like to have someone want to give me an opportunity without me asking, or poaching for it.

Luckily, I was able to quickly change my mind. Open up my mind. I’ve been learning about what it means and feels like to be open instead of closed. This is something I swear I would have told you I knew about before. (Even as the task gets bigger – I literally had to stop writing this post to take a phone call from a team-member. And the task got bigger! LoL)

At first it showed up as me not even really being able to translate what my friend Dyan was asking me to do. She asked me to help her with her three workshops and then proceeded to share the details… As she was sharing I realized I wasn’t capable of listening anymore. My brain had shut off. My brain was really stuck yall at can you help me with these three things, that are happening soon, that you hadn’t planned for, that you didn’t strategize for, that you don’t control.

(How does being intimidated show up in your life? I’m thankful that I was able to realize that sometimes, being intimidated for me shows up as not being able to process, and translate in the moment.)

I was able to mumble that I was having trouble processing but that I would be happy to support.

That night I kept thinking about these new tasks on my plate. I felt like I had been pressured to take on something I wasn’t sure I could handle. I was intimidated. I was really nervous. I just wasn’t sure how it was going to work. Because I was intimidated.

After a good nights rest and a little self-assurance, I was able to manifest how this chaos was actually opportunity cloaked in mask.  I JUST opened a workshop running business! What else could I ask for right now yo!? Like really. I have three golden opportunities to practice. To stretchhhhhh myself. To learn the craft and also document my craft. The documenting is the most important piece. One to share with y’all, and then second to share with others that need my services.

I went from nervous to excited.

Over the next couple of days, Dyan and a partner began getting input for scheduling. While they were doing that I wanted to get myself out of neutral.

I identified my strength. I teach, create a rough list of topics to cover in a 2 hour workshop. Now, GO!

One day on the train I fleshed out a rough list of 7 – 12 topics for each workshop. Some communication strategies, and sent them on the way.

I had created and contributed to the team. I was invested, and showing my presence.

Now – the task is bigger. We need a larger venue, we want bigger audience, and there are materials to produce. I’m off to do that stuff now.

Just wanted to share.
